Went on residential with the kids from school last week. It was lovely but SOOO tiring! We went Tuesday and were due to come back Friday but because of all the snow decided to head back the night before.
On the residential I did 2 runs which I was really proud of. The first one, on the first evening before it got dark (we were literally in the middle of nowhere so when it got dark it was literally pitch black). I headed one way, saw it was a dead end so turned to go over a bridge. BIG MISTAKE, massive hill! I took it slow and was able to get up fine, but I suppose we were at a higher altitude even when I started, my ears definitely popped at one point, so although the steepness of the hill wasn’t a problem, the height certainly was. It wasn’t long before I felt a little bit dizzy, and then even a bit sick. I decided to be sensible and head back down but URGH I felt rotten and worn out afterwards. I did about 3/4 of the run so wasn’t too disappointed.
I then went for another run on the Thursday, early in the morning. I chose a flatter route that tome and was fine. A few of the kids (and even other staff!) had seen me dressed and trotting off so it suddenly seemed the new fashion and after my run about 10 kids went off for one too! Quite funny really, but I prepped them all on being sensible, walking if you need to, all that jazz you suddenly have to listen to once you’re an adult, but was overall quite pleased I’d inspired them and promoted a healthy lifestyle. We went for a long walk on the day in between too. So all in all it was really good.
Was shattered afterwards though, still not quite recovered!
Well done on the runs while away and for inspiring those children! Good for you for keeping it up!
